Eco-friendly furniture for children’s rooms

Every caring parent selects wooden furniture for a children’s room with special attention and love, trying to please the baby and take into account all his preferences regarding the appearance of interior items. It is extremely important that your child’s room is not only stylish and attractive, but also comfortable, safe, multifunctional and certainly environmentally friendly.

Today we live in a world where we are surrounded everywhere by exhaust gases, harmful smog and artificially created materials that release into the environment substances that are dangerous to the body of both children and adults. You can increasingly hear about the environmental friendliness of food, building materials or furniture. Let’s try to figure out what the concept of environmentally friendly children’s furniture means and how it is determined.

Wood is an optimal material of natural origin in all respects. Products made from it are durable, reliable and have an attractive, presentable appearance and do not emit harmful compounds, since wood is created by nature itself. The most optimal species for making furniture for a nursery are considered to be pine, oak, birch or beech.

Environmentally friendly paint coating

You should not discount varnishes and paints that protect the surface of furniture from scratches, moisture, temperature changes and mechanical stress. They should also be of high quality, odorless and non-toxic, resistant to sweat and saliva, especially important for babies who may chew on cribs.

Furniture coatings come in both transparent and opaque, with a large number of colors and shades. The first option, which does not contain dyes, is preferable. Water-based acrylic paints, acrylate paints, oil-wax or nitro paints are considered the safest.

Hypoallergenicity of interior items in the nursery

Eco-friendly furniture should not cause allergies in a child upon contact with it. This applies to sofa upholstery or bed mattresses. It is better to pay attention to natural high-quality fabrics, for example: flock, chenille, gabardine or cotton. Coconut shavings, natural latex or seaweed are ideal as mattress fillers.

Environmental friendliness does not come cheap, so do not chase inexpensive furniture, most likely it will not be safe for the health of your child.
