Features of caring for furniture made of natural wood

Furniture made of solid natural wood, especially with hand-finished elements, has a unique beauty, which allows it to be classified as an elite item. For its manufacture, varieties of wood are selected, which differ not only in their unique texture, but also in their high strength, resistance to deformation and high humidity. To enhance the moisture resistance of the wood structure, special impregnations are used during processing. As a result, exclusive and durable products come out of the hands of craftsmen, which serve more than one generation for decades.

But over time, constant changes in temperature and humidity can lead to the fact that natural wood furniture will begin to lose its high performance. Owners of unique headsets have the opportunity to maintain their original appearance and extend their service life.

In many ways, the state of furniture made of solid natural wood of various varieties depends on:

  • operating conditions (frequency of using armchairs, chairs, sofas, opening and closing doors and drawers, etc.);
  • climatic conditions of the room where the headset is located;
  • regularity of care;
  • quality of products used for surface treatment.

Mechanical impact on wooden surfaces is unacceptable – this will cause scratches, cracks, dents and chips. Although the tree lends itself well to reconstruction, this process is not cheap. It is necessary to check the condition of fasteners and fittings two or three times a year. If necessary, invite the master to lubricate the metal parts, tighten the fasteners, this will prevent scratches during operation. To ensure good sliding of the boxes, the grooves should be wiped with special compounds in order to eliminate the violation of the geometry of the cases of wooden products.

Of course, it is impossible to change the frequency of using pieces of furniture for their intended purpose; it is unacceptable to turn a house into a museum of furniture. But all owners of wooden sets can maintain a suitable indoor climate and provide proper care.

The cause of premature wear of surfaces, deformation of parts, violation of the geometry of cases, loss of color and brightness of the texture are often unsuitable climatic conditions in the room:

  • constant high humidity;
  • abrupt change in humidity level;
  • temperature fluctuations;
  • exposure to direct sunlight;

If the indoor humidity is maintained at 65%, a constant temperature is within 15 ° C and wooden furniture is protected from direct sunlight, this will positively affect the preservation of a presentable appearance and functionality, and prevent drying and swelling of wood.

Eliminate all accidental abrasive and chemical preparations from care products. Use only specialized compositions intended for the care of solid wood furniture and containing wax or special oils. Read the instructions carefully and follow them strictly.

Minor dirt can be removed with a slightly damp cloth, followed by wiping dry – moisture should not linger on the wooden surface.

Furniture that has served the family for more than one generation should be treated with pest, rot and mold protection, since the impregnations used in its manufacture become less effective over time.
