Wardrobe in the bedroom: the main selection criteria

An important requirement for any bedroom is a comfortable environment for sleeping. This is difficult to implement in an atmosphere of disorder or heaps of things. Therefore, a wardrobe for a bedroom is an excellent solution to this issue. It holds a lot of things, allows you to organize their storage and provides easy access to them. And if the facades of the cabinet are made in an interesting design, such a cabinet will also decorate the room.

Features and advantages of the wardrobe in the bedroom

Cabinet furniture of the past decades has given way to wardrobes in popularity. Now there is no need to install separate cabinets, chests of drawers, cabinets, clothes hangers. All this is replaced by one cabinet – thoughtful and compact. After installing the wardrobe, all that remains is to bring in the bed and bedside tables – and everything you need in the bedroom interior will be present.

The closet can contain not only things, but also an ironing board, and bedding, and even a TV built into the facade or hidden behind it. The design possibilities for a bedroom closet are really wide and it would be a mistake not to take advantage of it. What are the advantages of a built-in or freestanding wardrobe in the bedroom? If the area of \u200b\u200bhousing allows, it is worth allocating a separate dressing room for storing clothes. But this is not always possible.

If you are in doubt about whether you need a wardrobe in the bedroom, read the list of its “pros”:

  • compact in use due to sliding doors that do not require additional space for opening, and the cabinet can be installed even in a small area;
  • capacious – everything that you put in the closet will remain hidden behind its doors; this allows you to mask the mess, as well as store various unaesthetic things out of sight – boxes of household appliances, suitcases and others. Due to installation under the ceiling, the entire area along the wall is used;
  • Visually can adjust the proportions of the room – with a well-chosen design and colors of the facades, the wardrobe improves the aesthetics of the room. Matte or mirror facades, light shades, lighting add space and light to the room;
  • masks layout flaws – built-in furniture allows you to hide ledges, niches, uneven walls;
  • can be transforming furniture with a built-in bed, table or shelves – such solutions are relevant for small apartments or in conditions of space saving, when the bedroom interior should be as functional as possible.

Among the features, it is worth noting the need for regular cleaning to prevent dust from entering the guide profile, wear and tear of materials if they are incorrectly selected, the necessity of internal lighting if the cabinet is large. Built-in furniture will be impossible to transport to a new location, and freestanding furniture is not suitable for any room.

Types of wardrobes suitable for the bedroom

The type of wardrobe that can be installed in the bedroom is determined by the free area: the larger the room, the larger the wardrobe can be. In a modest bedroom it is impossible to install a wardrobe with radius facades, while in a large room corner structures into two compartments will simply be lost.

The main types of wardrobes for the bedroom:

  • straight – have the shape of a rectangle, several compartments, can occupy an entire wall or a niche, are cheaper due to a simpler design, but at the same time they have excellent capacity, and their facades, which are a single panel, can be effectively decorated, painted and various decorate;
  • angular – L- or L-shaped, as well as in the form of a triangle or trapezoid; such cabinets are also spacious, but the designer will need to think over the internal content so that even in the far part of the corner all things are easily accessible. In such cabinets, the corner sections, both or one, are often made open. This visually facilitates the construction and allows you to place decorative elements and necessary things, for example, jewelry boxes;
  • radius – can be with an outer or inner radius; look especially expressive in combination with each other, forming a smooth wave. Such cabinets are appropriate in large bedrooms: they transform the environment, but require an individual approach in everything from the production of profiles to the installation of facades.

Rules for placement and dimensions of the cabinet

To make the use of the cabinet comfortable, consider the rules for its placement relative to other furniture:

  • Do not put the closet close to the bed: this makes the space heavier and creates the impression of a lack of air. Provide a “separator” between them – a rug, a bedside table. The distance should be at least 50 cm, optimally a meter or more, and the closet itself should not rise above the bed. For a smoother transition, the cabinet section bordering the bed can be equipped with open shelves;
  • In relation to the window, put the cabinet on the side. By moving it close to the window sill, you will block the access to light, even if the cabinet completely fits widthwise into the space near the window – this is how the laws of lighting work. Take the cabinet closer to the door or corner, where it will not block the sunlight;
  • The built-in wardrobe can stand anywhere, it looks like part of the wall and does not reduce the space of the room, but its choice for small spaces must be made especially carefully, taking into account the influence of colors and textures.

How to choose a wardrobe and what to look for

When choosing a cabinet, it is important to pay attention to the following points:

  • the type of closet and its relevance to the room;
  • the mechanism for opening facades – based on the bottom rail or suspended, which will cost more, but look more efficient;
  • material and fittings – both components are equally important; if the facades are always in sight, then the fittings ensure the functioning of the cabinet without problems, and the money invested in its purchase will be justified many times over;
  • volume – the dimensions of the cabinet are determined by the volume of things to be placed in it; in the calculations you need to take not the current moment, but the prospect. If the family plans to have children or someone from the household is seriously involved in sports, this should be taken into account. In any case, the volume of the cabinet should be with a margin;
  • the width of the sliding doors – it is convenient when this value does not exceed 110 cm;
  • Filling is a very important stage, it should be thought out in as much detail as possible, up to drawing up a diagram indicating the type of filling and sizes for it.

Inner padding

Today, there is a huge selection of systems and devices with which you can organize the storage of any type of clothing,
accessories and other things.

Each type of filling has its own characteristics:

  • boxes – made in any size for things of various sizes;
  • mesh baskets and shelves – allow air to pass through, allow you to see things hidden inside;
  • crossbars – used for clothes on hangers;
  • shelves – straight are suitable for clothes, inclined – for shoes;
  • trouser rack – is a set of hangers in one frame, organizes compact storage of a large number of trousers;
  • hooks – used for bathrobes;
  • dividers – inserted inside a box or container and allow you to separate small items by color, type – ties, jewelry, belts.

Wardrobe in the children’s bedroom

A closet in a nursery should be roomy, practical and “childish” at the same time, with a design appropriate for the child’s age.
Models with drawings, photo printing will cost more. Models of neutral tones are more budgetary, but do not bother and do not come out.
out of fashion. It is worth planning a little more shelves and hanger space than necessary – children grow, and with them
their needs are growing. A well-designed closet will change as the child grows, and where it was previously stored
toys, books and CDs will be located. In order not to change furniture often, you can provide some departments or shelves
for future things.

Which cabinet design do you prefer?

Here are some interesting elements:

  • slotted doors – have a decorative insert in the form of forging, glass, mesh, look elegant and rich, give air flow inside the cabinet, emphasize the style of the room;
  • frame facades – they use a profile to frame the door leaf, often of a different color and material, achieving a contrast or combination of the desired shades, which allows you to maintain the main tones of the room;
  • composite facades – they are assembled like a mosaic, from various textures, and they use a thin profile to combine, they look rich and elegant, they can be a real decoration of the interior. Instead of a standard facade, it can also be used;
  • mirror – looks spectacular with tinting in shades of bronze, graphite, with a matte or color pattern. The mirror visually expands the space, reflects the opposite part of the room and thus creates a sense of multidimensional space;
  • glass – frosted glass is usually used, if desired, it can be additionally decorated; such facades look light and weightless and at the same time reliably hide the contents of the closet from prying eyes.

Ordinary facades made of pressed wood shavings can be decorated with airbrushing, perforation, a thin layer can be applied
cured polymer – that is, polymerize, and decorate in other ways. All this is done in order to
became a real decoration of the interior, and not a boring piece of furniture.

The choice of interior design also largely determines the style of facades:

  • classic – the furniture has clear shapes, but rounded corners, which makes it solid and cozy. Warm shades, natural materials, mirror surfaces are widely used. The classical style is characterized by perforation of the doors, inserts of painted porcelain. In addition to brown, white, gray, light green are also relevant.
  • Provence – the style is characterized by rustic simplicity and graceful lines. Furniture in the Provence style has backs and seats with smooth lines, slightly curved legs. Shades are used light – pale lilac, blue, pink. Ornaments are used to a limited extent, as separate fragments;
  • Oriental – a style of luxury and bliss, with an abundance of draperies, pillows, curtains. Oriental style will be matched by a wardrobe with perforated doors, rich decor, mirror inserts;
  • Asian – the interior design of the bedroom in this style is supported by simple forms, natural materials, including living bamboo, round stones, and various greenery. The furniture is low, without legs, decorated with rattan and veneer. The colors are light.
