Wardrobe or closet: what to choose?

A storage system should be in any apartment or private house. When choosing between a closet and a separate dressing room, many do not know
what is the best choice to make. If the layout already provides for a dressing room, the problem is easily solved. But what do you prefer
when you have to make your own choices. Where is the best and most convenient place to store things?

What are the differences?

In order to choose the right storage system, you need to conduct a comparative analysis, determining the pros and cons of each of them. The differences between closet and wardrobe can be identified by paying attention to the design features. In the dressing room, even the smallest one, you can be inside to change clothes. And the open design makes it easy to place a full-fledged storage system in a relatively small area.

In the case of a cabinet, it is simply impossible to do without a door, and the capacity of the internal space is limited by the configuration of the compartments.

Features of wardrobes

Wardrobes are a classic design that is in great demand due to its advantages:

  • A large selection of design solutions – you can choose mirrored facades, visually expanding the room or make them match the rest of the furniture in the room.
  • The collapsible design makes it easy to transport furniture during a move.
  • A variety of sizes – they are not limited by the dimensions of the allocated room or niche.
  • Can be installed even in a small room where no other storage systems are suitable.
  • Affordable price. If this is a classic wardrobe, it will come out cheaper.

It is ideal if the house or apartment has a separate room where you can equip a dressing room. But what to do when it’s not there? In this case, you will have to find a place in the bedroom or living room. For example, in the housing of the old fund, layouts with niches are often found. This part of the room is well suited for a dressing room.

Small apartment

It will not be possible to allocate a separate room here – this is critical for a common space, but along with this, it is quite possible to equip a dressing room from partitions. To do this, the largest room is selected and part of it is fenced off. With the help of such a design technique, it will even be possible to balance a room with disproportionate dimensions. For example, when the bedroom is very elongated, the dressing room can be made against a short wall. A room with small proportions looks more comfortable.

Square room

In such a room, you can fence off the corner for the placement of cabinets and racks. By the way, it is not necessary to use doors in this case. You can use fabric curtains together – they will look like decor at the same time.

Long corridor

A long corridor can be easily turned into a dressing room. If the dimensions are less than 1.5 m in width, the cabinets can only be equipped on one side. But if space allows, storage systems can be made in two rows.

Narrow corridor and attic

Built-in wardrobes will “feel” better here. Equipping dressing rooms in such a space is impractical. Limited space and a sloping roof will not allow you to organize a full-fledged storage system. However, if you dream of a dressing room, but there is simply no other place, you should not discard this option either. Consider the geometry of the room – allocate space for shelves along the edges, and select the highest zones for storing things on trempels.

Optimal furniture for a nursery

For such a room, it is better to choose separate cabinet wardrobes. The child does not have a lot of things, so there is no point in making a dressing room. And it is much more comfortable to store toys in boxes next to the play area, and not in a separate room.

When making your choice, bet on mobile storage systems. Thanks to their functionality, they can be arranged even in the smallest room.

Summary

A dressing room is convenient, and if conditions permit, it is better to stay on it, unloading the common space from bulky wardrobes.

But if there was no place for a dressing room, don’t worry. A modern closet is a good alternative if a full-fledged storage system could not be made.

Both the dressing room and the closet require careful planning and competent calculations. If desired, any project can be made comfortable and placed on the allocated area.
